Journey Overview

Your Journey

This twelve day journey reveals the cultural depth, natural beauty and historic richness of the Caucasus, travelling through the contrasting yet interconnected nations of Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia. Begin in Baku, where the Caspian Sea meets futuristic architecture and ancient sandstone walls. Explore the medieval lanes of Icherisheher, visit Gobustan’s UNESCO listed rock carvings, witness the fiery landscapes of Absheron, and venture through mountain regions toward Sheki, where caravanserais and khan palaces preserve centuries of Silk Road heritage. Cross into Georgia and settle into Tbilisi, a lively capital shaped by Persian, Ottoman and European influence. Venture into the Caucasus Mountains, visiting Ananuri Fortress, Gudauri’s sweeping viewpoints and the iconic Gergeti Trinity Church. Continue through wine country with a full day in Kakheti, where monasteries, hilltop towns and traditional qvevri wine producers reflect Georgia’s ancient winemaking tradition. Explore Georgia’s early Christian sites in Mtskheta, visit Gori and its history, and trace early civilisation through the cave town of Uplistsikhe. Your journey ends in Armenia, beginning with a scenic transfer via Lake Sevan, Dilijan’s forests and a wine and brandy tasting in Ijevan. In Yerevan, enjoy a blend of modern culture and ancient tradition, with the option for a hands on Armenian cooking class. Explore the pagan Temple of Garni, the rock-hewn monastery of Geghard and the basalt columns of the Symphony of Stones, concluding with a warm lavash baking experience. A complete cultural immersion across three countries, this program captures the very best of the Caucasus.

Arrive in Baku, the dynamic capital of Azerbaijan where ancient history and cutting-edge architecture meet on the shores of the Caspian Sea. You will be greeted upon arrival and transferred by private vehicle to your centrally located hotel. After check in, take the remainder of the day to unwind and ease into the rhythm of the city at your own pace. Baku offers an inviting mix of cultural heritage and modern vibrancy. You may choose to take a gentle walk along the Baku Boulevard, a scenic waterfront promenade lined with gardens, cafés and views across the Caspian. Alternatively, explore the edges of Icherisheher, the atmospheric Old City famous for its narrow alleyways, carved stone façades, caravanserais and ancient defensive walls. This UNESCO-listed district provides an early glimpse into the city’s centuries-old history. For those wishing to sample local flavours, Baku’s dining scene offers rich Azerbaijani cuisine, from aromatic pilafs and kebabs to saffron-infused dishes and fresh breads from traditional tandoors. Baku Walking Tour: Historical and Modern City Highlights

Begin your day with a 10.30 AM meeting on lively Nizami Street, an easy 7 minute walk from the hotel and popular central location where your guide will greet you beside McDonald’s before leading you on an engaging exploration of Baku’s contrasting past and present. This small-group walking tour is designed to capture the essence of the city, weaving together its ancient heritage, oil-boom architecture, and striking modern skyline. Start by entering Icherisheher, the UNESCO-listed Old City. Wander through its maze-like streets, historic stone houses, caravanserais and centuries-old mosques, including views of the iconic Maiden Tower. Continue to the Palace complex area, where elegant courtyards and carved façades highlight Baku’s medieval craftsmanship. Leaving the Old City, ascend toward Martyrs’ Lane, a solemn hillside memorial offering panoramic views across the Caspian Sea and the futuristic Flame Towers, whose LED displays illuminate the skyline each night. Next, stroll through the peaceful Philharmony Garden, a beautifully landscaped public space blending European and Azerbaijani design influences. From here, descend to Baku Boulevard, the city’s famous seaside promenade lined with cafés, sculptures, green parks, and expansive Caspian views. The tour concludes at Fountain Square, a vibrant urban hub filled with shops and cafés. The remainder of your afternoon is free to enjoy Baku at your leisure.
