Together with Fairy Chimneys Travel, Michelle and Colin have prepared an itinerary of varied activities incorporating Turkey's epic history, cultural depth and diverse and unique landscapes. A highlight of the tour will be visiting the Lone Pine Memorial and Cemetery on the 6th of August, a moving and unforgettable experience.

Your Tour Leader - Michelle Jago

Michelle is an Australian Tour Guide who services the cruise ship industry working for Cruise Guides Australia, Abercrombie & Kent, and Aussie Interact. Michelle has also coordinated and traveled with Trade Missions to both China and Guam for economic development agencies as well as various incentive tours for a major Australian company. She has travelled extensively through China, Nepal and Tibet walking some of the well known treks of the Annapurna and Everest regions, and Tiger Leaping Gorge. Closer to home she has also trekked Tasmania’s Overland track and New Zealand’s Milford track. More recently, with husband Colin she has visited the WW1 battlefields of France, Belgium and Turkey. Day 1

Welcome to Istanbul. You’re about to discover an exotic city, brimming with fine monuments and artefacts of both the Byzantine and Ottoman empires. You will be met at Istanbul Ataturk airport today and transferred to your hotel. Welcome dinner.


Day 2

The world’s only city straddling two continents, the city of Istanbul dates back to antiquity. Its grand monuments bear testament to the ancient empires that made it their capital. Your day of sightseeing includes visits to the magnificent Blue Mosque and Byzantine Hippodrome, known as Sultanahmet Square. Other highlights are Basilica Cistern and Topkapi Palace, once home of Sultans and now housing Ottoman Empire treasures.

Day 3

This morning, enjoy a tour along the meandering Bosphorus strait, dividing Europe and Asia. Its banks offer a delightful blend of past and present, imposing splendour and simple beauty. See where contemporary hotels stand next to shore-front timber villas, marble palaces abut rustic stone fortresses and elegant compounds neighbour quaint fishing villages. Spend this afternoon exploring the 65 winding streets that make up the world-famous Grand Bazaar.

Day 4

After breakfast, drive south west to Gallipoli peninsula, with its cemeteries, memorials and war museum dedicated to the tragic events of 1915. Your first stop is Anzac Cove and Beach Cemetery, followed by a trek in the ANZAC’s footsteps up rugged hills to see the memorials at Lone Pine and Chunuk Bair. Enjoy a picnic lunch on the battlefields. Amongst today’s sights will be Shrapnel Valley, Walker’s Ridge, The Nek and surrounding trenches. At day’s end, you will cross the Dardanelles to the vibrant town of Canakkale.

We are in the township of Canakkale for the day, in the morning visit to the Gallipoli Military museum and Cimenlik castle. Spending the afternoon at leisure, you may wander around this lovely town and meet locals.

This morning you visit the ancient city of Troy, where excavations began in the late 1800s. The scenic road ambles on through olive groves and grassy plains, past pebbly Aegean beaches and fertile farmland to the ruins of Pergamum. Here you will see the Asclepeion, theatre and temple remains before continuing to the popular port of Kusadasi, once a resort town for the wealthy citizens of Ephesus.

Day 7

Today’s highlight is a visit to the ruins of Ephesus, one of the ancient world wonders. Walk the 2,000 year old marble streets of this fine archaeological site on the way to Hadrian’s Temple and the renowned Celsus Library. You will also pay a visit to the amazing array of terrace houses only recently displayed. This afternoon, return to Kusadasi for some leisure time before dinner.

A short way from Kusadasi is one of Turkey’s key recent archaeological discoveries, Aphrodisias. These marvellous ruins include the Temple of Aphrodite with its dazzling white marble and a vast, almost intact amphitheatre. Later is a drive to the petrified white lime cascades of Pamukkale. Nearby, at Hierapolis you will see the stadium and wander through the intriguing Necropolis tombs.

You have arrived in ancient Lycia. Now is time to discover Xantos - Letoon, one of Turkey's 11 World Heritage sites. Once the capital of Lycia these astounding ruins illustrate a blend of Lycian tradition and Hellenic influence, especially in funerary art. The epigraphic inscriptions are crucial to our understanding of Lycian people and there Indo-European language. Patara is our next stop, later renamed Arsinoe this was a flourishing Lycian city on the southwest Mediterranean coast. It is probably best known as the birth place of St Nicolas who lived most of his life in the near by town of Myra (Demre)

Day 10

Make an enjoyable day visit to the Greek island of Kastellorizo which lies just 2km off the Turkish coast. Its attractions pay tribute to its long and interesting history and the island offers a good selection of seaside eateries and water sports. A relaxing day enjoying the Mediterranean lifestyle!

Board your traditional gület (yacht) this morning for a half day cruising around Kekova, exploring natural harbours and long deserted shipyards.At Simena, see the sunken city ruins and explore the necropolis with its numerous sarcophagi. This afternoon, view the cliff-face rock tombs at Myra.

Kas, Olympos, Antalya

Day 12

Head for Olympos National Park this morning, where you will take an easy to medium walk of about 7km. The trek from Ulupinar to Chimera offers a lush forest backdrop and a visit to the magical and mystical Chimera, know in Turkish as Yanartas or "Burning Rock". Afterwards depart for Antalya.

Old City - Antalya - Small Group, Special Interest


Day 13

Two magnificent sites await you today: Aspendos, an ancient treasure housing the world’s best- preserved Roman Theatre, and Perge, a spectacular Greco-Roman city. Return to Antalya and encounter traditional jewellery-making in a visit to one of the largest jewellers in Turkey. Later this afternoon, dive into Old Antalya at Kaleici, meandering along the scenic streets of this old port.


Day 14

Free day at leisure to relax on the "Turkish Riviera" or explore the largest Turkish city on the Western Mediterranean coast, described in the Lonely Planet as both "classically beautiful and stylishly modern". Suggested sites to visit are the Roman-era harbour and Antalya Museum, one of Turkey's finest.

Private transfer to Antalya Airport. TBA Flight Antalya to Kayseri via Istanbul. Tour the alluring moonlike landscapes and unique scenery of Goreme Valley (one of the oldest settlements of the region) and visit the open air museum. The rock chapels carved by early Christians are an unforgettable experience. There is also a local winery visit and award winning wines of Cappadocia to sample.

Optional - Hot Air Balloon Flight

Today’s first stop is the Bronze Age ‘Pottery Village’ of Avanos where visitors may test their pottery making skill in the Hittite fashion. An arts and crafts day continues with a presentation at the Turkish Carpet Centre. Cappadocia is located south of Mount Erciyes within a volcanic region known for its curious ‘fairy chimneys’. These cones and strange rock formations have been sculpted by wind and rain erosion. Over the centuries many people seeking shelter from conquerors and marauding armies of the Central Anatolian Plateau settled here, burrowing whole subterranean towns into the rock. Tonight there is dinner and a show at a local restaurant.

Start the day with an early morning 4km walk through the amazing Pigeon Valley. The path through the valley offers spectacular views of the natural cliffs, man-made caves and the strange rock formations known as " fairy chimneys" for an unforgettable experience. Visit Kaymakli one of the large underground cities in the region. These are thought to have been carved out by the Hittites and later extended and enlarged by Byzantine Christians to be used as a means to escape persecution. One last day in Cappadocia so, this morning takes a leisurely pace. This free half day is a chance to relax and prepare for the big journey ahead. This afternoon, we take a flight to Istanbul and the last night on tour. Farewell dinner at Hamdi Restaurant
