Harem tour of Topkapi Palace, Istanbul

The Sultan's chair in the Imperial Harem of the Topkapi Palace. The harem, consisting of more than 400 rooms, was home to the sultan's mother, the concubines and wives of the sultan; and the rest of his family, including children; and their servants. Topkapi Palace served as the primary residence of the Ottoman Sultans from 1465 to 1856 and is now a museum and highlight while touring Istanbul.

Sultanahmet, the Old City

Many places of tourist interest are concentrated in Sultanahmet, in heart of the Imperial Centre of the Ottoman Empire.

The most important places in this area are Topkapı Palace, Aya Sofya, Sultanahmet Mosque (the Blue Mosque), the Hippodrome, Kapalı Carşı (Covered Market or Grand Bazaar), Yerebatan Sarnıcı and the Museum of Islamic Art.
